Biking Bhutan – distances of daily stages
This past autumn was a very very busy time of year in Bhutan caused by two good reasons. First it was the King’s wedding and second the prices increasing January 1, 2012.
Bhutan King’s wedding created particular difficulties for tour operators getting confirmations from lodges and hotels specifically in Punakha and Wangdue the location where the marriage ceremony visitors needed to be lodged and the local hotels had to cater to them ahead of the tourists.
The stress on amenities and accelerated quantity of vacationers created some domino effect as more tourists were booked in places like Bumthang. But Bumthang added new rooms, for example Dendupling Guest House.
In any case as high demand in Bumthang has unquestionably increased mainly at this period of the year, the grade of places to stay in Bhutan has been progressively improving as since about 12 months or so ago when the government decided to certify only accommodations that could meet their standard of 3-star minimum. While I can’t attest to that I do know for sure that even though there are a handful of lower quality accommodations on the government list in Bhutan (principally in the East), anything new should be of a specified standard, even if they will really don’t have any legitimately accepted star designations per global star rating, so the simple truth is the product quality is somewhere between 2 and 3 star.
The last October and November saw a yet still more visitors riding a bicycle in Bhutan, with quantities of purchased Bhutan cycling tours surpasing the amount of tourists signed up for Bhutan trekking tours.
While at the same time biking Bhutan is simply not for the proficient riders only, the miles of the daily periods is one point and the topography another. Truth is that travelers have the option to dismount at any time and ride inside their support van and those that enroll appear in diverse degree of fitness level and so it is a good choice to have to get off the bike when necessary and easily ride.
It doesn’t matter what none of the Bhutan bike excursions is a Tour de France, you bicycle, stop, savor, take photos, enjoy lunch break, bicycle on…
Following consider the approximate biking mileage on a daily basis on the key legs of Bhutan bike outings:
Paro – Thimphu bike 37 miles
Thimphu – Punakha 45 miles
Punakha – Trongsa 60 miles
Trongsa – Bumthang 42 miles

To remember, in October happened a quite significant quake in Bhutan. The epicenter was in southern Tibet and northern Sikkim where there had been lots of landslides and roads got obstructed. While Bhutan is situated clearly on the other side of major chain of large Himalayan mountains from the epicenter of the earthquake Thimphu described the fact that tremor was scary and fortunately there was no destruction or injuries.
